Experian: Zip+4 Median Credit Score

ActiveProspect partners with Experian to offer theirZIP+4 Credit Score service directly through LeadConduit.

What It Does

Experian's "Median ScoreX PLUS Score" service allows you to obtain median credit score data on a ZIP+4 area based on a valid mailing address.

The median credit score for the immediate surrounding area can translate into a block, a building, or a single organization.

Experian assigns a descriptive label to the provided lead, based on the bracketing of credit scores:

Super Prime: 740+
Prime: 680 – 739
Near Prime: 620 – 679
Non-Prime: 550 – 619
High Risk: <550

For example, if the median credit score for a ZIP+4 address is 800, the lead will be assigned a bracket of Super Prime.

What does ZIP+4 mean?

A ZIP+4 code is comprised of the basic five-digit code plus four additional digits to identify a subsection of the delivery area. Common examples of this are a city block, a group of apartments, an individual high-volume receiver of mail or any other unit that could use an extra identifier to aid in efficient mail sorting and delivery.

Using Zip+4 Credit Score

Open your flow edit to the Steps tab, click Add Enhancement and select Experian Zip+4 Credit Score Lookup:

Which lead fields are required to use the Enhancement?

When you submit a lead for enhancement to Experian, there's a number of data points that are required. It's important to note that the correct first and last name are not required to return zip+4-based credit score information for the intended lead. However, First and Last name will be sent if they are available.

To receive information from Experian, your lead must contain the following:

  • Street Address
  • City
  • State
  • Postal Code

If for any reason, your lead is missing this information, the Experian step will not execute. This is most noticeable on the event page under the lead information.

PLEASE NOTE

Experian receives only the following information from your leads:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Street Address
  • City
  • State
  • Postal Code

Understanding the Response

What constitutes a Success? What constitutes a Failure

Making a Decision

A filter or step criteria can be used after the enhancement step to make a decision based on the data returned.

While the Zip+4 Median Credit Score enhancement does not make a quality determination about the lead, you can use the data returned to make your own judgment about the lead's quality. The following is a commonly used filter:

Appended Data

The enhancement returns the following information:

Field Detail Example
Outcome The status of the recipient event success
Reason When the outcome is other than Success, a reason for the Outcome is provided. email account invalid
Lookup Score The Median Credit Score 796
Lookup Grade A text description of the range the Lookup Score falls into. super prime
Match Type

The fidelity of the score:

  • Median level - bad name, bad address, good postal code
  • Household level- good last name, good address, good postal code
  • Person level - good first and last name, good address, and good postal code

LeadConduit will receive one of the three match types as long as a valid response is received from Experian. Also, note that the values returned from the Experian integration will not vary based on match type. In other words, even if the name on the lead changes, the ZIP+4 median credit score will remain the same when the same address is used. This is because the credit score appended to the lead is based on multiple households within the same ZIP+4 area and not that of an individual.

Below you will find further examples of data which is returned for 'match type'.
