The LinkedIn Conversions API allows you to measure the effectiveness of your LinkedIn ad campaigns by creating a direct link between your server and LinkedIn. This connection enables you to track conversions (like leads, sign-ups, or purchases) no matter where they happen – on your website, offline, or in your app. By sending your conversion data directly to LinkedIn, you can:
- Improve campaign performance: Get a more complete picture of how your ads are driving results.
- Reduce cost per action: Optimize your campaigns based on accurate conversion data.
- Enhance data reliability: Ensure your conversion data is accurate and consistent.
This guide will walk you through setting up the LinkedIn Conversions API using LeadsBridge, which simplifies the process and allows you to connect various data sources.
Before You Begin
1. Check LinkedIn Requirements
- It’s important to involve your legal team early on. Share these LinkedIn resources with them:
- LinkedIn’s Data Processing Agreement
- LinkedIn’s Ads Agreement
2. Check LinkedIn Ad Account Permissions
- To successfully integrate and transfer conversion data, you must have one of these roles on your LinkedIn Ad Account:
- Billing admin
- Account manager
- Campaign manager
- Creative manager
Important: If you’ve already connected a LinkedIn Ad Account to LeadsBridge, you’ll need to reauthorize it to ensure all necessary permissions are in place for Conversions API.
To enable the necessary LinkedIn Ads permissions, follow the steps in this article.
Setting Up the Connection: LinkedIn Conversions API (Events API)
1. Create a New Bridge in LeadsBridge
- Log in to your LeadsBridge account and click " Create New Bridge"
2. Choose Your Source and Destination
- This is the first part of the Sources step; in this step, you should select the CRM or Platform from which LeadsBridge will retrieve your data. We’ll use Google Sheets integration as an example, but you can use many other integrations available for Audiences. Once done, we can select the Destination settings, which in this case will be LinkedIn Conversions API.
3. Connect Your LinkedIn Account - Click " Connect LinkedIn Conversions API" and then " Create a new integration."
- A popup window will open to start the LinkedIn authentication process
- Authorize LeadsBridge to access your LinkedIn Ads account
4. Configure Your Bridge - Ad Account: Select the LinkedIn Ads account where you want to track conversions.
- Conversion Rule is the rule that you set up for your conversions
- In the pop-up window that appears in the bridge, you need to name your conversion rule
- Select the Auto Associated Type to choose how you want to associate leads with campaigns (automatic or manual) and the List Campaigns (Campaign name)
- Note that the List Campaigns is mandatory only if the Auto Association Type is Manual
- Select the Type of conversion event you’re tracking (e.g., Lead, Purchase, Sign-up).
- Optionally, define the attribution window
- Note that LinkedIn Conversions API supports different types of events
- Sync Each: Choose how often LeadsBridge should sync your data (e.g., every 3 hours, 24 hours).
- Start Sync: Decide when you want the syncing to begin. You can start with a " Simulation" to test your setup before going live. With this option, you will be able to double-check the information sent to LinkedIn before setting your Bridge to Live Sync mode.
5. Map Your Fields
- In the Field Mapping step you have to match the data fields from your source to the corresponding fields in LinkedIn.
- Use the Add filter to Incoming Leads to refine which contacts are sent to LinkedIn. You can set conditions based on specific criteria, such as contact “State” or “Stage” in your CRM.
- After you have selected your Segmentation and optionally assigned your Source Filter, you can click on Save Changes to continue with the following step.
- Important:
- Make sure to map every mandatory value marked with a blue star.
- Ensure you map at least one of these fields for conversion tracking: Email, ACXIOM id, Oracle MOAT id, or First-party Ads Tracking UUID.
- If you map “First Name,” make sure to also map “Last Name.”
6. Save and Publish
- Click “Save & Publish” to activate your bridge.
Testing and Monitoring
1. Send a Test Conversion to LinkedIn
- Manually create a test conversion in your source system.
- Check your LinkedIn Campaign Manager (Analyze -> Conversion Tracking) to see if the conversion is recorded.
- To see when you last received conversions for a specific action, hover over the “Active” status.
2. Monitor Conversion Metrics
- In your LinkedIn Campaign Manager (Advertise -> Add column Conversions & Leads -> Breakdown Conversions), you can view your conversion data.
- Note that it may take a few hours for conversions to appear in the Campaign Manager.
3. Start with your Live Syncing!
- Once you’ve confirmed everything is working correctly, you can switch your bridge from “Simulation” to “Live Sync” to start sending real conversion data to LinkedIn.
- Be sure to log in to LinkedIn Campaign Manager in order to Set Up Conversions API and select Campaigns to track conversion rules.
